You stay classy Oscar telecast

You have the world's most captive film loving audience, and what do you do with it? You refuse to market films to them during a three plus hour telecast. Well film fans, not anymore. This year's Oscars will be different.

The Oscars, who had previously banned film advertisements and trailers during their telecast for both fairness and class reasons, are now changing their tune...but not without stipulations of course.
A number of spots are now allowed for movies that will not open until the last week of April at the earliest in an effort to avoid any current Oscar contenders from advertising. Also ads for prequels or sequels to films in contention are not allowed, and each studio is only allowed one 30 or 60 second spot each. Said spot must also have not run anywhere else prior to the Oscar telecast, and the spot cannot use the word 'Oscar' or 'Academy Award' in it's marketing. Each spot may only promote one film, and there will only be allowed one movie spot per commercial break during the proposed three hour program.

That means we will be getting new and exciting spots for the summer's tentpole flicks, and might actually be waiting with baited breath for the commercial breaks like so many do during the Superbowl. Although seeing an actor win for a holocaust movie, followed quickly for a Transformers: Rise of the Fallen trailer might make the telecast seem a little less classy, but what was that guy wasting his time with the holocaust for when there were movies being made about fighting robots? Bring on film promotion, if anything it will make the telecast more enjoyable to watch.
