Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg!

The studio has recruited The Office writer-producers to work on a new installment of the 1980s franchise that starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Harold Ramis as bumbling ghost-hunting scientists.

The original filmmakers, including director Ivan Reitman, and cast are aware of the project and involved in its development. Some original cast members might be involved, but the focus will be on a new cast of Ghostbusters.

WMA-repped Stupnitsky and Eisenberg, who are nominated for an Emmy for The Office, already have the support of one Ghostbuster in Ramis. The duo penned with Ramis Sony's upcoming biblical comedy Year One, which is produced by Judd Apatow and directed by Ramis.

There's fanboy talk all over the internet about the Apatow regulars falling into place, particularly Seth Rogen. Rogen since denied any involvment in the project, but said that it seemed interesting and he'd be all for it if someone approved it. I like Rogen, but I really want Craig Robinson as Winston. Anyone got any hopes for the remake? James Franco? Jason Segel? Jonah Hill? Someone want to start a Martin Starr for Egon online petition?

Martin Starr might be better suited for Lewis Tulley. I say let's get some of the unsung heroes from Freaks And Geeks out there. Samm Levine needs a job. So does John Daly.
Actually, I don't know that there's ANYBODY out there that I want to see in this. The first one was so good and they very nearly screwed it all up with the second. Could a third really be good?
Go ahead, Hollywood. Rape my childhood again. Let's have Mr. Stay-Puft pee all over Venkman. That would be perfect.
