Everyone else seems to be reporting on it, so we thought we'd let you guys get caught up in the rumor mill too. Apparently M. Night Shyamalan recently revealed to Sci-Fi Wire that he is still contemplating a sequel to his 2000 film Unbreakable. He says he hasn't written the story, but that he has been going through his journals in an attempt to get back into the zone he was in when he wrote the first. Shyamalan says, "I know me: As soon as I give up on it is when the idea will come to me."
Despite Unbreakable clearly being Shyamalans best filmmaking effort, he still seems surprised that people love the film, "I'll be on the street, and some kid will run across traffic with it in his backpack--he just is carrying it in his backpack--and he'll be running [saying], 'I can't believe it's you!' Will you sign my Unbreakable DVD?' And quoting the thing and all that stuff."
More Unbreakable is music to our ears, especially after seeing weaker and weaker efforts. It's about time he stepped back in and deliver the sequel he has been indicating ever since the first was released.
