Robert De Niro was signed up to star alongside Mel Gibson in Martin Campbell's Edge of Darkness. A spokesperson for De Niro then came out after De Niro had left the film explaining to us, "Sometimes things don't work out; it's called creative differences." De Niro would have co-starred with Mel Gibson as an agent tasked with cleaning up evidence of a murder Gibson's homicide detective is trying to investigate.
Well it seems that Campbell was quick to rebound after the loss of De Niro and has signed up Ray Winstone (Indiana Jones, The Departed) to replace him.
We don't know what De Niro is up to, but it seems like a bad move to us. Campbell is a very capable director, people will most likely be curious to see if Gibson can rebound, and De Niro will go back to cashing checks with more Focker sequels and bad dramas. Glad to have Winstone on board though, the guy is a total bad ass.
