Pamela Petter (Corpse Bride, Monster House) is writing the big screen adaptation of everyone's childhood economic teacher, Monopoly. Ridley Scott has been on board as producer and appears has been locked up to helm the project with hopes to toss a futuristic twist on the board game adaptation along the lines of his previous film Blade Runner.
The Hollywood Reporter tells us:
"Monopoly marks the latest Hasbro property to look to pass go and head to the big screen. Board games and branded properties have become more attractive as studios look to mitigate risk by finding built-in audiences.
Universal is working with Hasbro on several projects as part of a long-term development deal. Platinum Dunes is producing its feature adaptation of Ouija Board, while the maritime classic Battleship is also in development. Elsewhere at Hasbro, Paramount this summer is set to release Stephen Sommers' feature based on its G.I. Joe character."
Seriously? Built-in audience? I don't think I've ever played Ouija Boards and wondered, "Man, I sure hope they make a movie out of this game. It's only logical." Or, "Dude you landed on my Park Place, MAN!, imagine what that would be like if that just happened, but if Ridley Scott filmed it?!"
Anywho, hears to hoping they make something from nothing. What do you guys think?
