Doubt - (74% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes)
Meryl Streep, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and Amy Adams fill out the all star, vying for another Oscar cast. Adapted from the Pulitzer and Tony award winning play that tells the story of winds of political change sweeping through a community and a local Catholic school. Critical consensus tells us Doubt succeeds on the strength of its top-notch cast, who successfully guide the film through the occasional narrative lull.
Marley & Me - (52% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes)
John Grogan's bestselling book about his Labrador retriever bounds onto the screen with Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston starring as a couple who adopt the badly behaved but much-loved dog. Critical consensus tells us pet owners should love it, but Marley and Me is only sporadically successful in wringing drama and laughs from its scenario.
The Spirit - (15% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes)
Adapted from the classic comic, by a classic comic artist, Frank Miller adapts the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy, the Octopus has a different mission: he’s going to wipe out Spirit's beloved city as he pursues his own version of immortality. Critical consensus tells us though its visuals are unique, The Spirit's plot is almost incomprehensible, the dialogue is ludicrously mannered, and the characters are unmemorable.
Choose wisely, and Happy Holidays to everyone. Thanks for reading!
