Chan Wook Park's Oldboy is awesome. It tells the story of a man, after being kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years is released, only to find that he must find his captor in 5 days. It won international acclaim, awards, and some of my own personal shelf space for its packed to the gills DVD. Well, now it seems as though Steven Spielberg and Will Smith are circling the project and are in early negotiations to get this puppy Americanized.

Spielberg had been looking for an opportunity to make a film with Smith, who would play the kidnapped man if all the pieces fall into place. Spielberg is looking for a writer to begin the development process.

We understand the film will no doubt be bastardized in some way or another, but the idea of Will Smith remaking a totally awesome movie with Steven Spielberg directing gets us all tingly all over.
