Well...at least it wasn't (the grossly overrated) Citizen Kane again.
Empire magazine has compiled their list of the best 500 films of all time with the help of 150 directors, including Quentin Tarantino and Mike Leigh, as well as 50 film critics and more than 10,000 members of the public, which meant that this summer's biggest hit, The Dark Knight, unsurprisingly made the top 20 - the only film from the 21st century to do so.
The top film was The Godfather. Duh. The top ten was rounded out by Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, Singin' in the Rain, Apocalypse Now, GoodFellas, Jaw, The Shawshank Redemption, Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Some of those we agree with, and some we do not, but we'll let you make up your own mind.
Surprises (bad) included: Superman Returns, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men's Chest, and Sweeny Todd, to which we credit the 10,000 people polled and not the film critics.
Good surprises included: Back to the Future, Evil Dead 2, and Dumb and Dumber, to count a few.
Look over the list and tell us what you think. Upset Citizen Kane ain't atop the list? Pissed they missed something else?
