One day studios will run out of movies to remake. Until then, here's the trailer for the remake of 1984's The Karate Kid.
Will Smith's son Jaden Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness) plays Dre, a kid who moves with his mom to China, gets bullied, learns martial arts from a dirty-looking old man named Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) and hopefully beats the living hell out of some other children. Harald Zwart (Agent Cody Banks, The Pink Panther 2) directs.
At one point, the film's name was changed to The Kung Fu Kid, which would have made a bit more sense seeing how Chan and Kung Fu are Chinese and Karate is Japanese. Accuracy aside, is there any way Jaden Smith can fill Ralph Macchio's shoes? If you care to find out, The Karate Kid hits theaters June 11, 2010.
