The Godfather Trilogy (Pick of the Week)
The greatest movie ever made splashes onto the Hi-Def scene in a very big way. Instead of talking about why you should buy it, we went ahead and posted a before and after restoration shot. We chose the left side because, before they restored it, there was a huge scratch on the film that we'd prefer never see again.
Sex and the City
While most viewers of the very beloved HBO series love this film, it may not be for the truly devote at heart. Sex and the City: the Movie sucks out the life, wit, and feminism the show had in leaps and bounds. Fellas, maybe rent it for your girlfriend to show her how sensitive to her needs you are, and then pretend it's not sucking the soul out of you. Seriously, I could not pay Greg money to see this movie, and even I was dearly, dearly disappointed in it. Rent it if you must, but I prefer to leave the storylines where the show ended: sweet, funny, and charming.
Boston Legal: Season 4
The civil law spinoff of The Practice starring the award-decorated William Shatner and James Spader. Some argue this is their best season yet as they continue their antics by bringing the most outrageous and improbable cases to court.
Brothers and Sisters - The Complete Second Season
Enter the fascinating world of the Walkers and explore what is means to be an American family in the 21st century. Though they live very different and conflicting lives the Walkers find unity under the family roof. Relationships bend but never break as they strive to find their own identities and embrace each other's differences. Calista Flockhart Sally Field Rachel Griffiths and Ron Rifkin lead a stellar cast in ABC s critically-acclaimed hit. (Something that generic means I've never seen it, and I know nothing of it.)
Two and a Half Men - The Complete Fourth Season
Jon Cryer and Charlie Sheen star in the improbable hit based on a son, his father, and his uncle all living together. This show makes me quake with anger with how bad it is, and I tremble at the thought of more people watching this. I'm convinced that child is being force fed in a veal shack to keep him young looking and tender. Charlie Sheen should have better things to do.
L.A. Confidential - Collectors Edition & Blu-Ray
Curtis Hanson directs Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pierce, Kim Basinger, James Cromwell, David Straithairn, and Danny Devito in this 1997 best picture nominee. Isn't that enough? The story follows the investigation of a shooting at an all night diner. Everything is very Off the record, on the QT, and very hush-hush...
CSI:NY - The Fourth Season
The only one of the C.S.I. shows to not win an Emmy. I'm not sure if this one is one of the endless spin-offs or one of the originals. Anyways if you have ever accidentally seen a C.S.I. you know what to expect, except change the backdrop to New York, change the crimes to muggers, murders, and mob stuff and BAM! You got yourself C.S.I.:NY. If that's up your alley, then I'm sure you are already sold on it.
Leatherheads
A romantic comedy set in the world of 1920s football, where the player and coach of a professional team drafts a strait-laced college sensation American war hero to bolster interest, only to watch hero boy vie for the affections of the lady journalist covering it all. It's whacky, it's goofy, it's screwbally, and it's not a total waste of your time. George Clooney directs and is a significant letdown after the likes of Good Night, and Good Luck and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, but if you like Down with Love, mix it with some 1920s and football, well you might have yourself a date night planned.
Run, Fatboy, Run
David Schwimmer directs Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz star Simon Pegg in this romantic comedy where Pegg attempts to win back the girl he so desperately ran away at the altar from, you guessed it, winning a marathon to prove his affections. I could explain how they get there, but that ruins the only fun of the movie. The supporting cast is humorous, and many of the situations will provide a solid chuckle to an otherwise formulaic film that is well worth a rental.
