30 Rock: Season 2 (Pick of the Week)
One of television's funniest shows (how can you be bad when you have Alec Baldwin and Will Arnett) hits us with its second season on DVD. Jack (Baldwin) continues his quest to conquer the NBC empire, Liz (Tina Fey) deals with her romantic personal life, and Kenneth remains the moral compass for Tracy Morgan's uncontrollable character. Just as many, if not more laughs than season one. Oh and if Emmys mean anything to you, this season just picked up a couple.
Sleeping Beauty: Platinum Edition
Disney is rolling out the red carpet for Blu Ray, and this disc is apparently loaded to the gills with extras and BD-Live features. Seriously, we're talking nonstop updated content, video games, and all sorts of other modern gadgetry have been applied to this animation classic. Check it out.
The Simpsons: The Complete Eleventh Season
More of the Simpsons, and this one comes in a Krusty the Clown case! It's hard to separate specific shows from seasons, but it seems as though even bad Simpson seasons still have a lot of good episodes in them.
How I Met Your Mother - Season 3
The sitcom show that doesn't really suck. Jason Segel, Dougie Howser, and others bring the funny in this Bob Saget-narrated mystery comedy about how one man went about to meet his child's mother. Seriously, you actually will laugh while watching. And, yes, it IS on CBS. Go figure.
The Happening (Tied Pick of the Weak)
I'm not one for spoilers, so if you want to remain spoiler free skip to the next release, but in order to spare the curious...the bad guy in this movie is PLANTS! And their evil way of transportation is pollen via the WIND! How daunting and intimidating can plants and wind be? Well a bad idea gets executed in truly hilarious style with some of this year's worst acting by good performers. Check it out solely out of morbid curiosity and do not expect a worthwhile film.
The Visitor
Writer/Director Thomas McCarthy of The Station Agent tells the story of college professor and recent widower, Walter Vale, who discovers a pair of homeless, illegal aliens living in his New York apartment. After the mix-up is resolved, Vale invites the couple--a young, Syrian musician named Tarek and his Senegalese girlfriend to stay with him. An unlikely friendship develops between the retiring, quiet Vale and the vital Tarek.
Slacker Uprising
In case you hate things that are free, Michael Moore's latest documentary hits the DVD shelves today and you can pay for what everyone else has been watching for free for a week. So if you're dumb, feel free to click above.
You Don't Mess with the Zohan (Tied Pick of the Weak)
Tired of being the super Israeli agent for the government The Zohan fakes his own demise and re-emerges in New York City to fulfill his life long dream of becoming a hairdresser. Nut punches, racism, and Rob Schneider fill this 90 minute crapfest. I have little else to say on this matter.
Feast II: Sloppy Seconds
The sequel to the surprisingly likable first entry directed by Project Greenlight winner John Gulager. Creepy crazy monsters lurk out to a neighboring town and the people there must band together with the survivors of the bar attack in the first film to survive.
Paranoid Park
Gus Van Sant directs the story of a teenager and skateboarder, Alex, who is interviewed by Detective Richard Lu, who is investigating the death of a security guard in the rail yards severed by a train that was apparently hit by a skate board. While dealing with the separation process of his parents and the sexual heat of his virgin girlfriend Jennifer, Alex writes his last experiences in Paranoid Park with his new acquaintances and how the guard was killed, trying to relieve his feeling of guilty from his conscience.
Kill Switch
Written and starring Steven Seagal. Isn't that enough for you? Detective Jacob Stillwell is one of the most celebrated homicide detectives in the country. His brutal delivery of street justice is legendary among the men and women of law enforcement. But on this latest case, he may have finally met his match in Lazerus, a cunning and perversely violent killer who is on the loose and terrorizing the inner city. Stillwell s desperate pursuit of Lazerus takes him into the dark, depraved Memphis underworld of street sex and senseless violence.
