Two Lovers, which opened right before Valentine's Day and stars Joaquin Phoenix and Gwyneth Paltrow, has grossed little more than $2 million (including a whopping $94,986 on opening weekend), which probably isn't even enough to covering the food the crew ate on set while they made the movie. Now writer and director James Gray is blaming Joaquin Phoenix for the flim's shortcomings, and not himself for making a shitty movie.

“It’s like, Letterman was trying to get the movie out there, but the only thing that’s out there now is a crazy person with a beard making a fool of himself!” says Gray, still seething today at the “circus” surrounding Phoenix. Gray spits at the name, calling him a “clown”. “I have no idea what the hell that guy is shooting,” he says. “The whole thing is not to my taste, and I’ve let Casey [Affleck] know this.” [timesonline]

Here are the plot keywords from imdb: Jewel, Love at First Sight, Scars on Wrist, Miscarriage, Photography. What the fuck is that? That sounds more like a joke that Family Guy would make than a romantic dramedy. Just because all the hard core rappers in Joaquin's new demographic don't like romantic movies doesn't mean its his fault.

I haven't seen Two Lovers yet, but I've heard from quite a few people that it was really good. And, seriously, this whole Joaquin thing is an Andy Kaufman-esque ruse. He and Casey are playing the whole world. That's the only explanation for the absolute weirdness. Is Gray in on it?
