Robert Downey Jr. expecting "Due Date" 07/28/2009
![]() Variety is reporting that Robert Downey Jr. will star with Zach Galifianakis in “Due Date,” the comedy that Todd Phillips will direct for Warner Bros. this fall. Downey will play an expectant father who finds himself on a road trip with a mismatched partner, as he races to get there before the birth of his first child. Galifianakis, who starred for Phillips in “The Hangover,” plays his road trip mate in a comedy that Phillips calls “a buddy comedy without the buddies.” --Greg MacLennan Add Comment Diaz and Cage in talks for "Green Hornet" 07/21/2009
Ever since Michel Gondry took the helm on the Seth Rogen written and starring Green Hornet, we've actually been slightly excited for this movie--well, that and Rogen's significantly trimmed down waist. But with recent talks of Stephen Chow leaving the production as sidekick Kato (and this is after leaving the director's chair), we've wondered how this film is coming along. Statham gets "Blitzed" 07/14/2009
Jason Statham was at the UFC 100 fight Saturday Night taking in the How do you make a comic book flick exciting for film critics? Well, first you make Shakespearean nut Kenneth Branagh the director. Then, you add a relative unknown as the lead. And, to top off the critic frenzy, you add indie film fave and all-around dramatic actress Natalie Portman as the love interest. The 28-year-old Portman has been cast as Jane Foster, who was a nurse and first love of the title character in the Marvel Comics. According to Marvel Studios, the character is being updated for the movie version of Thor, in which the Norse warrior is cast down to Earth to live among humans. Chris Hemsworth stars as Thor in the movie, which begins shooting early next year. It is due in theaters May 20, 2011. What do y'all think? It will definitely be weird to see Portman in a superhero movie. I bet Greg is peeing his pants excited, though. --Darcie Duttweiler Ryan Reynolds=Green Lantern 07/13/2009
![]() Honestly, if Ryan Reynolds is interested in doing your movie, just let him do it. He's charming, charismatic, and he's got the superhero body to make your property flex it's financial muscle. I don't know why they even bothered screen-testing Justin Timberlake and Bradley Cooper in the first place. Reynolds just cuts a more classic leading man figure, so what if I saw The Proposal and liked it? The man has been flirting with success for some time now and it's only fitting he finally gets his shot at superstardom. Green Lantern will be directed by Golden Eye and Casino Royal helmer, Martin Campbell. The film is about a man who is granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe. The screenplay is by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Principal photography should begin this January in Australia. It goes without saying that this places Fox's Deadpool movie on hold. --Greg MacLennan Peck and Palicki ready for a new "Dawn" 06/17/2009
Josh Peck (of the Wackness) and Adrianne Palicki (Tyra of Friday Night Lights) have been cast in the remake of Red Dawn, which is set to begin filming in September. They join the already cast Chris (aka Kirk's dad) Hemsworth in the story of a group of teenagers who form an impromptu insurgency when their town is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers. Portman's "Swan" Song 06/16/2009
![]() Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan could soon be taking flight. After being set up in early 2007 at Universal, the project -- a supernatural thriller set in the world of New York City ballet -- has been reconstituted after being put into turnaround by the studio. It has been making the rounds to studios and specialty divisions, several of which are keenly interested. Among the elements giving it a boost: Natalie Portman is attached to play the lead. Swan centers on a veteran ballerina (Portman) who finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer, with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance. But it's unclear whether the rival is a supernatural apparition or if the protagonist is simply having delusions. Those who've read the script say it's a spine-tingler. Mark Heyman, a development exec at Aronofsky's Protozoa Pictures, has done a rewrite of John McLaughlin's original script for the pic, which Mike Medavoy's Phoenix Pictures and Protozoa are producing. If a sale happens imminently, Swan could begin shooting as early as this year. Aronofsky has not committed to a movie that's ready to go, though he has been developing the Robocop reboot at MGM. --Greg MacLennan ![]() Star of this summer's G.I. Joe movie and all around bad ass Joseph Gordon-Levvit recently sat down with MTV's Josh Horowitz and let slip a little on what he's up to next. He is collaborating with Batman Begins/The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan. It was really more of a non-comment, but we’ll take what we can get! “Here’s the thing,” Gordon-Levitt told MTV. “I cant wait to talk to you about [Inception] but I’ve been very specifically asked not to talk about it. I want to respect [director Chris Nolan's wishes] because I love his movies and I’m so honored and grateful to be working with him.” There’s apparently a very specific reason for Nolan’s insistence on maintaining the silence for now. “He’s got a really specific idea and way he wants people to be presented with this thing,” Gordon-Levitt said of the director’s plans. Variety has previously reported that Inception is "a contemporary sci-fi actioner within the architecture of the mind," and recent speculation is the film has a $200 million budget. Regardless, we know that Gordon-Levitt will play a role of some significance within the film. He wouldn’t go into any specifics of course, but he offered a sly response to the question of his role’s size. “I’m going to be working on it for awhile,” he said, laughing. Now this is where I begin to speculate, because when Heath Ledger met his untimely death, the world lost a true talent. After seeing his Joker, I couldn't have thought anyone could have done a better job. But then I got to thinking, and my geeky thoughts turned to Joseph-Gordon Levitt and how he bears a striking resemblance to Ledger, in addition to sporting some extremely diverse acting chops. If anyone could or would replace Heath, it should be Joseph. Well then Joseph got cast in Nolan's in between flick, and now I just hold onto hope that Nolan re-uses the guy like he uses Michael Caine, Cillian Murphy, Ken Watanabe, and Christian Bale. Heck, maybe if they aren't interested in re-hashing The Joker, maybe Levitt could be The Riddler? What do you guys think? --Greg MacLennan "Your Highness" must be high. 06/01/2009
![]() I'd like to take a second to address a problem that has been sweeping through Hollywood the past several years. Much ado has been made about the female image and how it is portrayed in movies, magazines, etc, but what about the average male? Recent films have led portly gentlemen to believe that with a little bit of wit, charm and the right amount of good luck that they can take home somebody that looks like Megan Fox, and I'm sorry but this isn't a fairy tale and that just isn't the case. Guys who look like Seth Rogen do not bang the likes of Katherine Heigl or Anna Farris. So in support of this new movement I discourage you from seeing Your Highness, a film about two princes on a quest to save their kingdom. It was recently announced that Danny McBride and Natalie Potman will star in the film alongside James Franco. This is a classic love triangle scenario that will invariably end with Portman falling in love with McBride even though he's a fat, beer drinking, pot smoking loser. A man can dream, but how much are those wet dreams costing America's future? --Clark Herer Rogen rushes the "Paul" Frat 05/27/2009
![]() Next year's highly anticipated comedy Paul is the story of two sci-fi nerds on a road trip to Comic-Con who along the way pick up an alien named Paul. Written by and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, the plot sounds promising, and with director Greg Mottola's influence you've got a bona fide buzz movie. Well it just got worse. Variety is reporting that Jason bateman, Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig and Jane Lynch have joined the cast, with Seth Rogen providing the voice of the alien. It seems to me like comedy movies are turning incestuous. I can't remember the last comedy I saw that didn't have Will Ferrel, Seth Rogen or Paul Rudd in it. I know people talk about this "fraternity" they have but I think there is actually an internment camp with horrible living conditions where directors show up with film crews and force the same 20 actors to mass produce comedies. --Clark Herer |
