Rickman rumored for Burton's Alice in Wonderland 10/28/2008

ZDONK is reporting that Alan Rickman is set to join Tim Burton's remake of Alice in Wonderland as the hookah-smoking, wise caterpillar. While we normally try to reserve our excitement for official announcements, we already had quite the celebration. Rickman has the perfect voice for the Caterpillar and oozes charm (hello, Sense and Sensibility).

Some other noteworthy news about the film: Alice is being played by 18 year old Austrailian actress, Mia Wasikowska; Anne Hathaway plays the White Queen; Helena Bonham Carter plays the Red Queen, which we reported to you Movie Pressers a couple of weeks ago.

Other cast includes: Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter; Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts; Michael Sheen as the Cheshire Cat; and Matt Lucas (HBO’s Little Britain) as Tweedledee and Tweedledum.

The film, which will blend live action with CGI, motion capture, and 3D and is set for a 2010 release.

New Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince trailer! 10/28/2008

While Greg pretends to not enjoy the Harry Potter films, I'm a total Harry Potter nerd, well, I don't dress up in character and go to the book releases, so perhaps I'm only a half-blood Harry Potter nerd. Anyhoo, a new international trailer came out this week, and it looks frickin' awesome. Who else wishes WB didn't push this back til next year?

In other teeny bopper news... 10/28/2008

Another hot Disney Channel act is poised to make a big screen splash at 20th Century Fox. Fox has locked the Jonas Brothers to make their feature starring debut in Walter the Farting Dog. Based on a bestselling series of books by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray, the film is being adapted by Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen into a family film that will revolve around Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas, as well as their younger brother Frankie (aka the "other one").

Pic shoots next spring and is a potential directing project for Peter and Bobby Farrelly, who'll produce. Seriously?

The Jonas Brothers have become wildly popular through the boy band's appearances playing music and acting in such Disney Channel programming as the telepic Camp Rock. Frankie has also gained a profile appearing with his brothers.

The title character in the Walter books is a fat dog with severe flatulence. Again, seriously? The brothers play musicians whose parents are asked to care for the dog by an aunt just before she passes away.

"By the time they've driven the dog home, everybody's head is out the window of the family station wagon but Frankie, and only because he has a serious sinus problem and doesn't notice the stench coming from Walter," said Peter Farrelly.

While his brothers play music, Frankie and the gaseous hound get involved in a plot that involves liberating a koi fish and thwarting jewel thieves. SERIOUSLY? We bet this movie makes a bajillion dollars. Seriously.

Everybody cut Footloose! 10/28/2008

After witnessing Hurricane Efron firsthand this weekend, Paramount is very keen to fast-track their Footloose remake with hopes of next spring in mind.

Peter Sollett, director of the very enjoyable Nick and Norahs Infinite Playlist, has been picked up to work on the re-write of the script which will aim for an older teen and adult demo. Efron is just about set in a deal that will pay him a mid-seven-figure salary and give him script approval to kick off his Sunday shoes. And with abs like that, why shouldn't he have all that and more? While Sollett rewrites the script, the studio is working on new songs that will complement some of the memorable original tunes.
