...prize-winning author that is. David Lindsay-Abaire, who won a Pulitzer for penning last year's play The Rabbit Hole and had a hand in writing the CG film Robots, is currently in negotiations to write Spiderman 4. He will potentially be working from the draft by Zodiac scribe, James Vanderbilt (Basic, The Rundown), which will reunite Kirsten Dunst, Tobey Maguire, and director Sam Raimi for more web-slinging fun.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno - (63% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) Pick of the Week

We could tell you guys all about it, or you could just click on our REVIEW HERE.

RocknRolla - (57% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes)

Guy Ritchie returns to his roots with this cockney crime caper starring Gerard Butler and Tom Wilkinson. In London, a real-estate scam puts millions of pounds up for grabs, attracting some of the city's scrappiest tough guys and its more established underworld types, all of whom are looking to get rich quick. The plot involves guns, sex, Russian mobsters, and every other thing that made us love Guy in the first place.

Changeling - (53% on Rotten Tomatoes)

A historical thriller from Oscar-winning director Clint Eastwood. Angelina Jolie stars as a mother whose son disappears in 1928 Los Angeles. When he returns months later, she realizes that he is not her child and her quest for the truth begins. With the reviews, I think it's safe to call this thing busted Oscar bait. That or most critics are tired of plots involving kidnapped children and showy acting.

The Haunting of Molly Hartley - (Not Screened for the Press)

Most girls can't wait for their 18th birthday, but not Molly Hartley (Haley Bennett, THE RICHES). As the day approaches, danger begins to mount for the teen, and a secret from her past might be the key to the horror in her present. THE HAUNTING... Most girls can't wait for their 18th birthday, but not Molly Hartley. As the day approaches, danger begins to mount for the teen, and a secret from her past might be the key to the horror in her present.  When she was a kid her parents sold her soul to the Devil. Oops, we spoiled it. It seems a whole lot like TV's Reaper, but without the awesome acting and humor.

My Name is Bruce (Limited Release) - (Not Screened for Press)

Typically we only give you what's hitting the national scene at The Movie Press, but this week we felt compelled to tell you about Bruce 'The Chin' Campbell's new movie that's coming out in limited release this weekend. Gold Lick, Oregon is a relatively quiet place, until a monster arrives hellbent on killing everyone. One of the townspeople survives an attack, kidnaps his idol, Bruce, and asks him to save the community. Bruce embraces the idea thinking it's all a hoax, until he comes face to face with his reality and tries to rise above it as the town savior.

Check it out, team. I saw this way back at the Fantastic Fest screening but was holding it for you guys until this weekend. Be sure and check it our Zack and Miri Make a Porno review HERE. I warn you now, there's some swearing involved.

1990s Vertigo Comic Preacher has been picked up by Columbia Pictures with Sam Mendes readying himself for the director's chair.

Created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, Preacher, which ran from 1995-2000, told the story of a down-and-out Texas preacher possessed by Genesis, a supernatural entity conceived by the unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon.

Given immense powers, the preacher teamed with an old girlfriend and a hard-drinking Irish vampire and set out on a journey across America to find God -- who apparently abandoned his duties in heaven -- and hold him accountable for his negligence.

Preacher has had its difficulties getting to any screen. Mark Steven Johnson (Daredevil, Ghost Rider) had written a script for a pilot for HBO, which later went into turnaround. Kevin Smith's production company, View Askew,  also had a script for a film and even got the casting stage with James Marsden and a $25 million dollar budget that never came to pass. Let hope with talent the size of Mendes', we finally see this thing all the way through.

Gary Oldman is set to star opposite Denzel Washington in the January 2010 release, Book of Eli.

The script, by Gary Whitta and a rewrite by Anthony Peckham, centers on a lone hero named Eli (Washington) who must fight his way across the wasteland of a near-future America to protect a sacred book that might hold the key to saving the future of humanity.

Oldman will play Carnegie, the despot of a small makeshift town deficient of standard necessities, services, and most noticeably, laws. Carnegie is determined to take possession of the book Eli is guarding.

Berry Gordy's 1985 cult classic, The Last Dragon, is being remade with Samuel L. Jackson co-starring as Sho'nuff, the Shogun of Harlem.

Davis Entertainment and Gordy's son, Kerry, are producing the picture which follows along the same lines of the original, centering on young martial arts student Leroy Green in his quest through the streets of New York to achieve the highest level of martial arts accomplishment, known as the Last Dragon. Those who achieve the high ranking possess the Glow, making them the greatest fighter alive.

For those unfamiliar, I've attached the baddest, coolest, m-effing trailer you have ever seen.

People reports that Joaquin Phoenix will be retiring from movies to focus on his...ugh...music.

"I want to take this opportunity ... to give you the exclusive and just talk a little bit about the fact that this will be my last performance as an actor," the two-time Oscar nominee told Extra at the San Francisco event. "I'm not doing films anymore."

"Are you serious?" asked the stunned interviewer Jerry Penacoli.

"Yeah. I'm working on my music," Phoenix insisted. "I'm done. I've been through that."

His rep confirmed the retirement to Extra.

The 34-year-old performer gave no further details on his career plans – but he has been working on a record for some time British band The Charlatans.

Phoenix, who costars in the upcoming romantic drama Two Lovers with Gwyneth Paltrow (which we screened at AFF and WILL have a review up shortly), first learned to play guitar for his Academy-Award-nominated role as Johnny Cash in 2005's Walk The Line.

Hmm...wonder if it's anything like when John Corbett gave up acting for country music. How'd that work out?

Gavin O'Connor, director of this past weekend's Pride & Glory, will direct Vince Vaughn in Sunny and 68. The film is set to begin production February 2010.

Vaughn will play a superstar on the poker circuit whose alcoholism and recklessness cause him to flame out on national television. Wiped out and owing $500,000 to bookies, he heads home to upstate New York for the first time in 20 years, looking to take back cash he'd been sending his mother. Instead, he finds his mother dying of cancer and raising a 5-year-old girl who is actually his daughter. Mom has been positioning his former high school g.f. to become the girl's eventual caretaker.

So Marvel Studios has made it official, they've got Robert Downey Jr. locked up in a four picture deal, and they plan to use the shit out of him. Marvel just sent out a press release confirming that Downey will be in both Iron Man 2, due out May 7, 2010, and The Avengers, due out July 15, 2011.

But wait, that's not all. The release also states that Don Cheadle is official for replacing Terrence Howard as Rhodes, and will also be reprising his role from Iron Man 2 in The Avengers as well.

The Avengers will bring together the superhero team of Marvel Comics characters for the first time ever, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, and more as they are forced to band together to battle the biggest foe they've ever faced. No word yet on Edward Norton's involvement as the Hulk.

While some of us here at The Movie Press got lucky and saw Zack and Miri (no longer Make a Porno, mind you) at Fantastic Fest a couple months back, others have to wait til Friday to check it out. But ComingSoon.net has released a new Red Band clip with an introduction by the Office's Darryl to whet our appetites. Enjoy!
