Red Tails ready for takeoff 09/30/2008

After enough stop and starts to leave its occupants in permanent delay, George Lucas' WWII dogfight epic is finally underway now that it officially has a director attached.

Anthony Hemingway is set to direct Red Tails, the story of the first group of black pilots to serve as pilot escorts to bombers. Although their ability to fly had been questioned on racist grounds, the Red Tails' record in the sky was so impressive that they became heavily in-demand to lead bombing runs over Italy and Germany in the last year of the conflict. Hemingway is known for his direction of episodes of some of televisions hottest shows, including The Wire, CSI:NY, and ER.

Production beings in March and will be shot all over Europe.

This just in, Michael Bay thinks bigger is better. Go figure. 09/30/2008

It appears as though Christopher Nolan wasn't the only guy who thought shooting specific scenes on the gigantic 70mm film cameras was a good idea. Apparently it's the latest thing for a tent pole release.

Michael Bay is first in a line of directors demanding his studio pony up the cash to make his Transformers 2:Rise of the Fallen even bigger and better. Jon Favreau has also expressed interest in potentially putting some biggerness into his Iron Man sequel as well as D.J. Caruso with his Y:The Last Man adaptation.

Studios seems likely to bite. Despite the high cost of making these sequences and the inability for directors to capture live audio due to the incredible sound the cameras make, IMAX scenes have proven to be a good marketing ploy. The Dark Knight alone has pulled more than $60 million from IMAX screens alone.

It seems to be yet another attempt to help the dwindling attendance numbers at the box office. If it's not 3D, it's got to be bigger right? We are slightly excited to see enormous robots battle on a projectors biggest stage. Are you guys sold?

Thomas Dekker is gonna live forever! 09/30/2008

If Thomas Dekker really got what it takes, it's going to take everything he's got in a remake of Fame.

At the New York City High School for the Performing Arts, students get specialized training that often leads to success as actors, singers, etc. This movie follows four students from the time when they audition to get into the school through graduation.

Dekker (The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Heroes) is in negotiations to play Marco, a working class kid with some gnarly acting chops ready to compete. This baby already has a release date set for September 25th 2009, and a February start date. Other characters  to be cast (and everyone will remember their names...) include an aspiring filmmaker, a shapely dancer, a slam poet, a salsa musician and a sheltered pianist.

Woody Harrelson, Will Smith, Rosario Dawson, and Barry Pepper star in what IMDb says is the emotional story of a man who will change the lives of seven strangers. Check out the trailer below. It's being directed by the same guy who brought on the weepies with the frustratingly misspelled Pursuit of Happyness.

And it looks as though the man very well may be proving he's still got a pair of hairy dangleys down there. Stone has claimed that he is doing an honest and sincere portrayal of the current president.

While we can't say we've seen it and can vouch for it, we can say we are very interested in seeing the finished product. What do you guys think?
