Director tapped for third "Twilight" flick. Tweens rejoice. 03/12/2009
0 Comments

Summit Entertainment has tapped Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona to direct Eclipse, the third pic in the Twilight vampire series. He reported beat out Drew Barrymore for the gig. Yes, THAT Drew Barrymore.

A protege of Guillermo Del Toro, Bayona directed the Spanish-language horror-thriller The Orphanage.

Summit's opted for a different director on each Twilight pic. Chris Weitz replaced Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke on New Moon, which is now also starring Dakota Fanning, FYI.

Production is due to start shortly on New Moon with the key players-- Robert Pattinson as Edward, Kristen Stewart as Bella and Taylor Lautner as Jacob -- reprising their roles. It is set to open Nov. 20.

Melissa Rosenberg, who penned the Twilight and New Moon scripts, is working on Eclipse, in which Bella is forced to choose between Edward and Jacob.
It will be released June 30, 2010.

Much like the Harry Potter franchise, we think the right director could actually help these films not suck so hard, so given Bayona's horror pedigree and Del Toro ties, this could potentially be good for the 'tween flick. Thoughts?

And because of my Scarlett Johansson photo below, I decide in lieu of a pic of a Spanish director that, let's face it, no one probably cares what he looks like, I have decided to post a Robert Pattinson picture instead. Swoon away, Twilight fans, swoon away.

Rumors no more! "Iron Man 2" casting news 03/12/2009

Rumors have been circulating forever about whether or not Mickey Rourke would indeed join RDj and Don Cheadle in Iron Man 2. It was reported that he was offered a "measly" $250K to stat as villain Whiplash and then declined. But no, Wrestler fans! Rourke has closed the deal and will indeed continue to ride his comeback train. No reports have indicated how much money actually exchanged hands.

Rumor No. 2 is also true! After Emily Blunt dropped out of Iron Man 2 because of scheduling conflicts with Gulliver's Travels, the internet went atwitter with who would black the Russian Femme Fatale, Black Widow. Everyone seemed to agree that, hey, Scarlett Johansson is sexy, and yup she could be a femme fatale! Well, MoviePressers, the rumors became fact as Johansson signed up officially this week.

Iron Man 2 is due in theaters May 7, 2010.

And I thought it was only fitting to include a sexy photo of Miss Scarlett, as I've had some complaints from the fellas that I only post sexy shirtless photos of hot dudes. You're most welcome.

A call to arms in support of "Watchmen". 03/11/2009

David Hayter has written a letter to fans. While it may have little to no impact, the word should still be spread. Was Watchmen the best movie ever? Hardly, but showing support for films that have balls, is a worthwhile cause. Because do we really want to see more Paul Blart type pandering to the masses? If the world makes The Watchmen a success it's not only helping that film that took decades to make, but it helps studios know we are okay handling challenging and layered material. Here's what the man had to say:

“If the film made you think. Or argue with your friends. If it inspired a debate about the nature of man, or vigilante justice, or the horror of Nixon abolishing term limits. If you laughed at Bowie hanging with Adrian at Studio 54, or the Silhouette kissing that nurse. Please go see the movie again next weekend. You have to understand, everyone is watching to see how the film will do in its second week. If you care about movies that have a brain, or balls, (and this film’s got both, literally), or true adaptations — And if you’re thinking of seeing it again anyway, please go back this weekend, Friday or Saturday night. Demonstrate the power of the fans, because it’ll help let the people who pay for these movies know what we’d like to see. Because if it drops off the radar after the first weekend, they will never allow a film like this to be made again.”

This is a trailer for a new comedy from Todd Phillips, the dude who brought us Old School. The Las Vegas-set comedy centered around three groomsmen who lose their about-to-be-wed buddy during their drunken misadventures, then must retrace their steps in order to find him. And it's got Bradley Cooper. Check it out.

"Star Trek" beams new trailer into your face. 03/09/2009

Now I'm a big enough Star Trek fan. I've seen most of the movies, I watched a lot of Next Generation and can totally enjoy myself with it all. When I heard they were making a new one, with J.J. Abrams directing I got decently excited. Why? Because Mission Impossible III was a ton of fun and this trailer is started to get me really excited. What do you guys think?

Yup, as if it were some sort of huge surprise, the gigantic $150 million dollar picture scooped up the top spot and unseated Tyler Perry. Not only that but if you click to our Box Office Results section you can also see just how far the Jonas Brothers fell, and how well Slumdog and Taken are still doing.

Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan are "A Couple of Dic...err Cops" 03/04/2009
0 Comments

According to Variety, Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan are set to star in Kevin Smith's new movie that was originally titled A Couple of Dicks, however, the film has been given a clean and shiny new title: A Couple of Cops.

Willis and Morgan will play two LAPD detectives who are enlisted to track down a stolen baseball card, but find their task to be fraught with danger, as they tangle with mobsters, laundered drug money, and a mysterious Mexican beauty.

Cops was scripted by Robb and Marc Cullen, and will not only be the first time Smith directs another man’s script, it’s also going to be his first major studio film. Smith will be directing Cops for Warner Bros rather than Miramax / The Weinstein Co. All we can say is, HURRAY! Tracy Morgan might actually be put to good use finally.
