![]() Two Lovers, which opened right before Valentine's Day and stars Joaquin Phoenix and Gwyneth Paltrow, has grossed little more than $2 million (including a whopping $94,986 on opening weekend), which probably isn't even enough to covering the food the crew ate on set while they made the movie. Now writer and director James Gray is blaming Joaquin Phoenix for the flim's shortcomings, and not himself for making a shitty movie. Box Office Results March 27-29 03/30/2009

![]() Monsters Vs. Aliens - (70% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) Pick of the Week Sean Penn a "Stooge?" 03/25/2009
![]() File this under WTF? Sean Penn has just signed on with the Farrelly Bros. to play Larry in The Three Stooges, Variety reports. Jim Carrey is in negotiations to play Curly, which means he'd have to gain half an Olsen twin in weight, and Benicio Del Toro is being eyed for Moe. The planned film is not a biopic; rather, it's an "updated take" on the classic Three Stooges productions. I don't know what all that hub bub was about production problems, because this trailer is awesome. Either Spike Jonze has brought my childhood to life, or he made a pact with the devil to get a totally awesome trailer out of it. What do you guys think? I mean Arcade Fire music? Come on! Tom Hanks is taking it to the Moon! 03/25/2009
![]() Former American sweetheart Tom Hanks has signed on to be a part of Universal's Major Matt Mason, a live-action feature based on the vintage Mattel action figure that will be written by Graham Yost. This is all fine and dandy, except, what the fuck is a Major Matt Mason? It's not even on Wikipedia and a google search revealed very little. I know Mattell is eager to cash in on old toys with movies like Candy Land and Stretch Armstrong, but at least people know what those are. I think Mr. Hanks should stick to Toy Story 3. After some further research I found that Mason was the leader of an astronaut team that lived and worked on the moon, and fought a few hostile aliens. He was the hottest thing going in the years leading up to NASA’s first trip to the moon and wasn’t retired until the 1970s. Despite being retired for so long, Matt Mason is remembered very fondly. A mint Mason is an “unofficial crewman” on many NASA flights, and one even flew with John Glenn in his final Shuttle flight in 1998. "Mad Men" suit to "Howl" with Franco 03/24/2009
![]() Joining James Franco as Allen Ginsberg and Jeff Daniels, Mary Louise-Parker, and David Strathairn in Howl is Mad Men ad exec Jon Hamm as Jake Ehrlich, the defense attorney in the obscenity trial provoked by the explicit nature of Ginsberg's collection of poems. (Interesting note: Ehrlich was also the real-life inspiration behind TV's Perry Mason.) Fresh off his comedic stint on 30 Rock, Hamm will help bring to life the story of Ginsberg's most famous poem. You think Hamm will get to wear some more amazing vintage suits? Fingers crossed. That dude has an amazing hang. |
