More "Twilight" news! Can you handle it? 02/21/2009

While we ignored New Moon's new logo announcement--I mean, c'mon, is that REALLY news, plus you can knock yourself out at Cinematical--we cannot ignore the announcement that there will indeed be a third installment to the Twilight series. As if there was any doubt eh,?

Interesting news though, New Moon director, Chris Weitz will no be helming the third flick. New Moon will be released November 20, 2009, and they are currently in preproduction. If that sounds like a short turnaround, well, it's because it is. The threquel will bow June 30, 2010, meaning Weitz wouldn't have enough time to start filming Eclipse as he would still be in preproduction, so get it out of your pretty little heads that it's anything more dramatic.

Eclipse is described as such: "As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob -- knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death."

Excited for a third film before a second one has even come out? And, again, I don't know how I got to be point person on all this Twilight madness considering the movie stunk for me and I've never read the books, so if you want to put me out of my misery on reporting this tween drama, tell us if you care or not about Twilight. Yay or nay?

Embrace the "Broken Embraces" trailer 02/20/2009

I'm going to go ahead and say it, Pedro Almodovar is one of the greatest directors of the past 20 years. I dunno how a Spanish gay dude can write and direct for some of the most fantastic female characters, but he does.

Anyhoo...Almodovar's latest film, Broken Embraces, finally has a trailer. Oh, wait, it's a teaser trailer. Well, shit. Can anyone figure out what the film's about based on this? Naw, us neither. Looks pretty
though! (Here's looking at you Penelope Cruz.) And if Volver is any indication of Almodovar's rising caliber as a writer/director, we're gonna go ahead and get excited for it now. Thankssss...too bad it won't come out in the US til November. Poop.

Sandler is one of the "Funny People," go figure 02/20/2009

The trailer for Funny People, Judd Apatow's third directorial feature starring, get this, Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Jason Schwartzman, and Jonah Hill, premiered today. We've been intrigued by the flick from day one cause, let's face it, Sandler has stopped being funny, and he often makes us forget that he is a decent actor.

The film is about a dying comedian (Sandler) who takes a new protege under his wing (Rogen). The trailer makes Funny People look like Apatow watched Punch Drunk Love a few times, and we're a-ok with that.

Thoughts?

Fired Up! - (31% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) Pick of the Week

Shawn and Nick are top scorers on the Ford High School football team…both on and off the field. When they hatch a scheme to trade their footballs for pom poms and join the school’s most beautiful girls at cheer camp, the new team members actually give the girls’ historically awful cheer squad a chance at success. Critical consensus for these late twenty somethings playing highschoolers tells us though not as raunchy or juvenile as the average teen comedy, Fired Up is also not as funny. Why is it the pick of the week then? Because only two movies are opening because it's Oscar weekend.

Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail - (Not Reviewed for Critics)

After a high-speed freeway chase puts Madea in front of the judge, her reprieve is short-lived as anger management issues get the best of her and land her in jail. A gleeful Joe couldn't be happier at Madea's misfortune. But Madea's eccentric family members the Browns rally behind her, lending their special "country" brand of support. There's no critical consensus yet, but chances are if you're a Tyler Perry fan this one won't disappoint. And for the rest of the world who don't know who Tyler Perry is, feel free to stay as far away as you possibly can.

Robert Rodriguez, the man of a thousand projects, finally picks one. 02/18/2009
0 Comments

Rodriguez will write and direct a futuristic thriller which follows “a character named Joe Tezca who is part of an elite unit dispatched to quell a crime wave in a theoretically perfect future society in the year 2085." The film is titled Nerverackers and has already been set up with an April 16, 2010 release date. That means Rodriguez will not be making your Sin City sequel, he will not be doing anything with Barbarella, or Machete, or any one of the other 3,000 projects he's been attached to recently. But he is taking his unique set of skills to an original idea set in a sci-fi universe where he knows how to make each penny count, so we're pretty interested to see what the old boy has up his sleeve.

"Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World!" 02/18/2009

Bryan Lee O'Malley's comic adaption to be directed by Edgar Wright, director of Hot Fuzz. The series is about 24-year-old Canadian Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera), a slacker, hero, wannabe-rockstar, who is living in Toronto and playing bass in the band "Sex Bob-Bomb". He falls in love with American delivery girl Ramona V. Flowers, but must defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends in order to date her. Sounds like a reaaaaaaal stretch for Cera, but if Edgar Wright is on board, so are we. Picture come courtesy of Edgar's Myspace Blog.

Robot Explosions Part 2, I <3 You Michael Bay 02/17/2009

Michael Bay sure loves blowing stuff up, and when it came time to be offered a sequel to his financially successful, but sometimes difficult to watch Transformers you know he'd take that opportunity to make it all bigger and better. Well these trailers have me as excited as the first one because frankly, I enjoy Michael Bay, and I think he blows shit up real good. Your thoughts?
